This boat is a great starter sailboat. It is the perfect boat to learn how to sail and gain all the skills necessary to become an expert sailor. If you’re looking for adventures on the water and sailing, this MacGregor is a great option. We sail mostly on the Innercoastal waterways, the St.John river and we also trailered it to the Gulf of Mexico for a vacation.
MacGregor trailerable sailboats are known for the water ballast that fills when the boat is in the water and is drained for easy towing. It is the perfect boat to drive anywhere and launch from any ramp. Before launching, you can put the boat together, including rigging in less 30 minutes. It glides on the trailer very easily either by hand or motoring on. It is water ballasted which allows you to easily pull out a plug emptying the tank of seawater lightening your load for your drive home. Dismantling it, including taking down the mast, is quick and easy.
This sailboat has a unique V-shaped hull enabling it to cut through the waves. You can anchor in very shallow water allowing you to check out and walk on beaches-it floats in 12 inches of water with the centerboard board up. It keeps afloat with solid foam flotation and it is unsinkable and uncapsizable. It has a roomy interior big enough for a family of four to sleep-two in the bow and two in the aft.
I don’t believe there is a better family sailboat for weekend adventures. If a boat is difficult to tow, launch, retrieve, and sail, you won’t go sailing as often.

On the trailer, the tongue weight is 160 – 190 lbs and can be easily towed by a mid-sized car. It has a draft of 6.33 ft (1.93 m) with the centerboard down and
1.25 ft (0.38 m) with the centerboard up. It has a hull speed of 6.5 kn (12.04 km/h).
